Linking Engaged Leaders with Purpose-Driven Boards

Linking Engaged Leaders with Purpose-Driven Boards

About Us

Our Story

OnBoard KC was born from a challenge from a local philanthropist and mentor of Mary Mooney Burns’… “Let’s meet a need in Kansas City’s nonprofit community!”

Through over 60 conversations with local nonprofit professionals, she discovered a common pain point — the time and effort required to recruit, vet, and engage board members. With over 30 years of nonprofit experience, Mary recognized this as a critical gap in board recruitment and development.

Recognizing that a strong, purpose-driven board is vital for nonprofits to thrive, Mary turned to local corporate and philanthropic leaders eager for meaningful board roles but who were also unsure of where to start.

Thus, OnBoard KC was born. We provide the support, resources, and personalized connections to empower both nonprofits and board candidates to make a lasting difference.

Our Why

Effective non-profit boards are instrumental in addressing the multifaceted challenges facing Kansas City. They provide strategic direction, ensure financial integrity, mobilize resources, and represent community interests.

OnBoard KC recognizes the pivotal role of engaged board members in driving organizational success, community impact, and long-term sustainability.

We Are Not Alone

Leveraging good people and organizations working this space is a priority for OnBoard KC.
